The Coffee Bar is an “indie” coffee shop located in the former Water Street Garage in Vancouver’s Historic Gastown district. We were called to the location prior to construction of the interior, and had the opportunity to work with the proprietor from conception. The building’s owner had revitalized the exterior, and we had a great canvas to work with, featuring large windows and exposed post form concrete surfaces.
One of the most impressive features we designed into this space was a ceiling bulkhead made from weathered reclaimed fir siding. Planks of reclaimed wood were mitered at the corners to create a box that concealed the HVAC ducting and fire suppression plumbing, as well as providing much needed baffling to reduce the din caused by the high concrete ceilings.
Other work consisted of a dovetailed reclaimed fir cupping table, reclaimed fir tabletops, built-in banquettes, and barista counters.
